"Paul is Dead" Hoax Sweeps the World.

Word that Paul McCartney was dead spread like wildfire in the fall of 1969. Clues that led fans to believe he had expired in 1966 and had been replaced by a look-alike suddenly began cropping up everywhere, and many fans around the world began to mourn his passing.

...Many of the "clues" came from student Fred Labour, such as:

On the Sgt. Pepper album cover, the band is standing on a grave...

In "Glass Onion" on the White Album, John sings, "Here's another clue for you all, the walrus is Paul."...

On the Abbey Road cover, Paul is barefoot...and is out of step with the others...

On the Magical Mystery Tour cover, three Beatles wear red carnations...while Paul wears a black one, indicating death...
